Mr. Rudolph (Rudy) Harris, Jr.

October 4, 1947 — February 26, 2021

Rudolph (Rudy) Harris, Jr. was born on October 4, 1947 in New Brunswick, New Jersey he was the firstborn son of Mae (Drayton) Harris and Rudolph Harris, Sr. He departed this life February 26, 2021 in Berlin, New Jersey. We thank God for lending Rudy to us 73 glorious years. Rudy was a lifelong resident of New Brunswick, New Jersey, with formal schooling in the New Brunswick School System, graduating in 1965 from New Brunswick High School. Following graduation, Rudy was drafted and served 2 years in the Army Military Police Corps with service in Vietnam -1968, receiving an honorable discharge that same year. Rudy was a Disabled Vietnam War Veteran. Following his service in Vietnam, Rudy attended Rutgers University, and then joined the New Brunswick Fire Department on May 5, 1980. Serving 30 years with the New Brunswick Fire Department, Rudy retired May 1, 2010 with the rank of Lieutenant. Rudy was a Proud Member of the Vulcan Pioneers of New Brunswick, a volunteer at the Ebenezer Soup Kitchen in New Brunswick and a member of the Veterans Service Center (Vet group), Berlin, NJ. His hobbies included Cooking, Baking, Fresh Water Fishing, smoking cigars, going to the Gun Range and spending time with his family. Rudy was a true leader and mentor who had love for all that came his way. Rudy leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Jovana (Gibson) Harris: (4) daughters Canice Harris of New Brunswick, Allurra Harris of Jersey City, Jemai (Mimi) Gibson, and Justice (Bird) Gibson of Berlin, N.J,. (1) Son, Chad Harris of New York City (2) grand children, Ki’hire Harris and Paris Johnson. (2) brothers, Jeffrey Harris (Donna) of Harker Heights, Texas and Kevin Harris (predeceased) (3) sisters Robin Woodley (Gene), Joanne Harris of Delaware, Marchelle of Yonkers N.Y. (1) special brother in law Paul (Bunyun) Statum, an adopted sister, Carol (Peaches) Statum, (1) aunt Delores Hawkins of Annapolis Md. many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Rudy also leaves to cherish special friends Rev. Jimmie Gordon, Theodore “Ted” Moore and Raymond Lockhart.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to the Lustgarten Foundation - Pancreatic Cancer Research.

Cremation will be private.
