Obituary for Nathan Goldberg

Nathan Goldberg, surrounded by his family, passed away on Saturday evening, November 25, 2017. He had lived a long and full life of 99 years.

A life-long resident of New Jersey, Nathan was born in Plainfield in 1918. He graduated from Plainfield High School and attended Pace University. He served in the U.S. Army, air-corps division during World War II, with air-combat divisions in Egypt, Libya, Italy, Southern France, and Tunisia. After completion of his army service in 1945 he returned to Plainfield where he and his family continued to live until 1975.

Nathan was married to Myrl Finkel Goldberg who predeceased him in 2005. In 1975, they moved to the Clearbrook section of Monroe Township. In 2010, he moved to the Chelsea at Forsgate where he lived until his death.

Mr. Goldberg was devoted to his wife, his daughters, and his family. He was a pharmaceutical salesman throughout his entire working career, establishing long and caring friendships with the many pharmacists who were his clients. He was an avid golfer, having twice hitting “a hole-in-one.” He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons, and had served as President of the Clearbrook Golf Association. He was loved by his family and friends for his devotion to them all, his smile, his humor, and his ability to fix anything

Mr. Goldberg is survived by his daughters, Joan Goldberg Miller and her husband, Rabbi Bennett Miller of Monroe Township, Barbara Goldberg Cohen of White Plains, NY, his grandchildren Rabbi Ellie Miller and her husband Nathan Lynn of Morristown, Carrie Miller Nussbaum and her husband Jed Nussbaum of Short Hills, David Cohen and his wife Ashely of Merrick, NY, and Brian Cohen of New York, NY, along with six great grandchildren who adored him. Having been one of nine brothers and sisters Mr. Goldberg is also survived by his remaining siblings, his brother Louis Goldberg and his wife Sandy of Boca Raton, Florida and his sister Pearl Lerner of South Carolina.

Funeral services will be held at Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, 222 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick at 11am Monday morning. Interment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge. Following interment, Mr. Goldberg’s large extended family will observe shiva privately but a public shiva will be held on Tuesday at Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple in New Brunswick from 5 to 8PM. Friends wishing to make donations to honor the memory of Mr. Goldberg are encouraged to do so at Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple in New Brunswick.
