Mr. Martin "Mate" Jakab

July 26, 1938 - September 25, 2019

Obituary for Martin Jakab July 26, 1938 – September 25, 2019 North Brunswick, New Jersey | Age 81 Loving Husband, Father, Brother and trusted friend Martin “Mate” Jakab, 81, of North Brunswick, passed away on September 25, 2019, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, surrounded by his loving family. He loved life and was a fighter and a survivor of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. Mate, as he was known to family and friends, was the oldest of five children born in Luna de Sus, Romania on July 26, 1938, to Stefan Jakab and Katalin (Kovacs) Jakab. He was raised in Romania where he lived until the age of 50, when he took a big leap of faith and moved to the United States to provide his family with more opportunities. Mate worked selflessly and tirelessly to build a beautiful life for his wife and two daughters and made countless friends along the way due to his gentle and kind nature. He settled in New Brunswick and after retiring as a skilled auto-body mechanic he moved to North Brunswick to be closer to his daughters. Mate was a faithful member of the Magyar Reformed Church of New Brunswick attending mass regularly and always offering his help with church events. He is survived by his wife Ileana (Varga) Jakab, his daughters Judit Mueller and husband John J. Mueller, and Zorela Jimenez and husband Luis Jimenez. "Tata" will be forever missed by his five grandchildren, Jenny Mueller, Johnny Mueller, Matthew Mueller, Sophia Jimenez, and Izabell Jimenez. He is also survived by his brothers Peter Jakab of Debrecen, Hungary, and Julius Jakab of Luna de Sus, Romania. A memorial service followed by lunch will be held on October 5 at 11 AM at the Magyar Reformed Church, 175 Somerset St, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Martin’s name to: Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, https://alzfdn.org/support-us/donate/, or the Magyar Reformed Church of New Brunswick.
