Mr. Lester Seidenstein

January 28, 1924 — December 5, 2021

Lester Seidenstein, age 97, of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of South Brunswick NJ, died peacefully on December 5th at the Life Care Center of Estero. He was born on January 28, 1924, in New Brunswick, NJ, to Benjamin and Sadie Seidenstein.
Lester graduated from Jamesburg, NJ high school and attended Rutgers University for one year before being drafted into the US Army. He lived much of his life in the Deans and Dayton areas of South Brunswick, NJ, until moving to Florida in 2007. In 1945 he married Edith Feinberg and they were happily together for over 65 years. He proudly served his country during World War II but was seriously wounded by a mortar attack in Germany and spent his remaining military service recuperating in an Army hospital. After returning from the war, Lester began a career in the automotive business, first as a mechanic and then later as a parts and service manager for various General Motors dealerships. While in his 40’s, Lester changed careers by becoming a licensed agent for Investor’s Diversified Services. He then spent 20+ years helping clients with life insurance and investments, prior to retiring in 1989.

Lester was active in the 4-H while in high school, and then, upon starting a family, he became a volunteer leader with the 4-H program. He served as a leader for the Dayton Aggies 4-H club for many years, helping boys learn skills in woodworking, gardening, electricity and automotive repairs. After “retiring” from his work with the 4-H, Lester spent many hours with his favorite hobby, woodworking. Everyone in his family and many friends regularly received small gifts lovingly handcrafted by Lester. His favorite creations were toy cars and golf carts. (Interestingly, he never played golf.)

Lester and Edith loved to travel. They enjoyed camping in their motorhome, but they also traveled extensively around the world until just before Edith’s death in 2010.
Lester is survived by his children, David of Venice FL, Jeffrey (Sally) of Carmel, IN, and Laurie (Greg) Shuss of Bonita Springs, FL; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; and his sister Blanche Fruhling of Bell Canyon CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith, his sister Evelyn Tobias and his parents, Benjamin and Sadie Seidenstein.
Lester was fortunate to enjoy a 96th birthday celebration, surrounded by friends and family, just before the pandemic in January 2020. Graveside services will be held in the Washington Park Cemetery in South Brunswick, NJ, where Lester will be buried next to his loving wife, Edith, his sister Evelyn and his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lester’s memory to a charity of your choice.
