Dr. Frances Steeble Choper

Dr. Frances Steeble Choper, 86, passed away at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. Dr. Choper resided in Highland Park, NJ since 1961, where she practiced Internal Medicine for over 30 years in a home office she shared with her late husband, dentist Wayne S. Choper. During her active medical practice, she had privileges at St. Peters University Hospital and RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ., where she also taught.
Upon graduating from Douglass College, Dr. Choper obtained her medical degree from New York Medical College in 1959. Dr. Choper completed an Internship at the University of Vermont- Fletcher Allen Health Care in 1960. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Metropolitan Hospital in 1961, and her residency in Anatomical and Clinical Pathology at Albert Einstein-Montefiore Medical Center in 1962. Upon retirement from private practice, Dr. Choper maintained an active medical license and continued to attend weekly medical conferences at the local New Brunswick hospitals.
Since retirement, Dr. Choper reinvented her artistic talents, producing a large amount of mixed media paintings that are cherished by her family. Dr. Choper was passionate about spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved her horses, dogs, nature and the outdoors. A constant and beloved presence in the daily lives of her children and grandchildren, Dr. Choper rarely missed a weekend at the barn, a horse show, a family trip, or a weekly dinner with family and friends.
Predeceased by her parents Harry and Evelyn (Jacobson) Steeble and her husband Dr. Wayne S. Choper, she is survived by her son Ethan J. Choper of Highland Park, her daughter Jessica E. Choper and son-in-law Andrew N. Friedheim, and her two granddaughters Chloe Juliet Friedheim and Margo Choper Friedheim, of Pennington, NJ, and her sister Cecilia King, of Margate, NJ.
Graveside services will be held at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1 Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, NJ at 11:15 am on Friday, October 19, 2018.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ.
