1930 – 2017

Ann Zar Taub, a lifelong New Brunswick area resident, Rutgers University Silver Knight and Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple Crown of Torah recipient, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday June 30. She was 87.
Born to Joseph and Lenore Zar at St. Peter’s Hospital, Ann went on to graduate from New Brunswick High School in 1947 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s of Science from Rutgers College of Pharmacy in 1951.
While at Rutgers, Ann met fellow classmate Arthur L. Taub whom she married in the spring of 1951 prior to their graduation. They were inseparable for nearly 60 years of marriage and celebrated practicing pharmacy for over 100 accumulated years. Arthur died in 2010.
Ann was licensed by the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy shortly after graduation and began to practice pharmacy in New Brunswick at Hoglan’s Pharmacy on George Street. Ann and Arthur opened Taub Pharmacy in East Brunswick in 1956 and worked side by side until they sold the business in 1974. Ann continued her career at Rutgers in the fall of 1974 as a pharmacist with the Student Health Service. Ann served the students of Rutgers University until her retirement in 2007.
Along the way, Ann served numerous terms as the President of the Middlesex County Pharmaceutical Association and from 1992 – 94 as President of the NJ Pharmaceutical Association. Ann also served Rutgers University in the mid-1990’s as the President of the Rutgers College of Pharmacy Alumni Association.
Ann was a lifelong member of Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple and served her congregation with honor, distinction and dedication for many years. Ann was a life member of the Temple Sisterhood, a teacher in the Religious School, Chair of the High Holy Day Seating Committee, and a member of the Board of Trustees for many terms. Together, Ann & Arthur were appointed Life Time Trustees and received the Crowns of Torah Award, the congregation’s highest honor, for their years of dedication and commitment to Jewish life and the Jewish community.
Ann Zar Taub touched more lives than we ever know.
Ann is survived by her daughter Sylvia Taub Ames her husband Steven and her sons Rabbi Joshua S. Taub and his wife Debbie and Arden J. Taub and his wife Amy, granddaughters, Dr. Maxine Rachel Ames, Naomi Sarah Taub, Stephanie Lauren Taub, Marlee Rose Taub and Olivia Jordan Taub, her brother Alan Nathan Zar and nieces Jennifer Elizabeth Zar and Suzanne Patricia Zar.
The funeral will be held Sunday July 2 at 11 am at the Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, 222 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, N, followed by internment at Elmwood Cemetery.
