Mrs. Susan "Susie" (Horvath) Blakeney, 99, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 in the peacefulness of her home. She was born and raised in Highland Park, moved to Milltown, NJ and in 1947 she moved to New Brunswick after she was married. Susan and her husband moved to Douglas Gardens Apartments in Somerset in the 1980's and resided there until her death.
Susan was a very committed member of Bayard Street Presbyterian Church in New Brunswick. She was the past president of the Women's Guild and a Sunday School teacher. Susan was also a member of the Hungarian Noodle Making Club.
Susan also enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking the Hungarian pastries.
She loved working at Squibb and Company where she was involved in preparing the morphine drug vials during war time. Susan traveled and kept copious notes and photo albums of her many trips and cruises.
She was predeceased by her parents, Julius and Elizabeth (Proktor) Horvath, her brothers and sisters and is survived by her devoted son, Thomas Blakeney, of Ewing, NJ,, her loving granddaughter Holly McGowan, and her cherished great grandchildren Joseph and Riley McGowan, all of Ewing, NJ.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from (:00-11:00 am at the Gowen Funeral Home, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with interment in Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church, New Brunswick, NJ.
