Robert J. Smithers, Sr., 72, passed away at the St. Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick, on Monday, March 6, 2017. He was born and has been a lifelong resident of New Brunswick.
He had worked many years ago for American Can Company. Robert was a wonderful handyman as well as a master mechanic. For a short time he owned and operated his own garage.
Robert was always there to lend a helping hand and assistant anyone with anything. He was a very happy-go-lucky kind of guy.
Robert was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Priscilla (Blezak) Smithers and is survived by his sons Robert J. Smithers, Jr and his wife Cynthia and Sean P. Smithers and his wife Anne, his two grandchildren Ashley N. Smithers and Robert J. Smithers, III, his cousins Shirley Kaplan, Tamara Allain, Michele Tabora and his godson Branden Kaplan, Victoria, Tony and Kevin and his former wife Theresa Mier.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 6-8 pm at the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 2239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ. Cremation services will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Robert's memory to the American Cancer Society.
