Jose M. Martinez, 85, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the Haven hospice at JFK Hospital, Edison. He was born and raised in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He came to Manhattan, NY, where he met his wife Miriam, they were married for 64 years.
Jose was a Pastor with the Alpha and Omega Pentecostal Churches in Puerto Rico, Newark, New Brunswick and Elizabeth, NJ for 42 years retiring in 2000. He also served as Assistant Pastor in the church in Somerset.
He was very handy making scooters, bikes and other recreational toys.
Jose was a man who would give his last dollar to someone in need. He was predeceased by his parents Vincente and Juana Martinez and his brothers and sisters and is survived by his beloved wife Miriam, his loving sons Richard ("Rickie") and Albert and his wife Ana, his cherished grandchildren Melinda Reyes and Matthew Martinez, his great grandchildren Lorenzo Reyes, Genasse Gerena and David Gerena, Jr. and four nieces Nancy, Marilyn, Lillian and Evelyn.
Visitation will take place Friday, August 5th fro 6-9pm at the Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ. Final prayers at the funeral beginning at 10::30 am on Saturday, August 6th. Interment at the St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick, NJ.
